The 10 Best Wii Games for Kids 5 to 8

If you ask kids aged five to eight what their favorite Wii games are, you’d better be prepared for a longer list than just ten. And it’s not that gender specific, too. Girls would be less likely to argue with boys so much because both of them actually do get to play and enjoy the same Wii games at this age.

Since we’re talking about kids aged five to eight, let’s zero in on their interests.  Kids find puzzles and mazes to be such a big hit.  These simple challenges are quite absorbing for the younger children, tickling their mental capacities and delighting them to no end. This is because their sharp, young minds are able to quickly piece things together and grasp the entire picture to solve a puzzle or challenge.  This is what the younger-generation Wii games are designed to develop in the children.

Another noticeable factor in these games is that kids around this age have such an active imagination that it would be so easy for them to accept what they hear and see in the game.  That’s why these games have very little to no explicit violence in them at all.  The safest, most entertaining games they could play are those which feed and satisfy their hyperactivity through a variety of sports and those which allow them some play-acting with the roles of superheroes and villains.

This brings us to our list of The 10 Best Wii Games for Ages 5-8.  Kids everywhere would consider the following Wii games awesome:

1. Mario Kart with Wii Wheel

Mario Kart with Wii Wheel is one of the all-time favorite Nintendo Wii games for the years 2008 and 2009. Kids haven’t gotten over the races Mario and friends take through tracks in their MushroomKingdom, and so have their older counterparts. This version has enhanced graphics which add fun and excitement, while the innovative Wii wheel gives the racer more control and effectively simulates the driving experience with a greater degree of realism. Heck, your kid might even learn to drive five or ten years before you did!

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Brawl tops the list of Wii games for all ages, but since it’s designed for the more serious gamers, we’ll have to keep it at number 3 along with the other Mario games. The four-player fight games have cool and wacky effects, but they sometimes tend to get choppy when the matches start to get crazy. It also takes a bit of time to master the games despite the simple controls, so it depends on the child’s level of preparedness.

3. Mario Kart

Bring out your competitive side with Mario Kart racing! Best enjoyed with the steering wheel accessory, into which the Wii remote sits. You can either play against each other in multi player mode, or for younger players, set to the time trial mode so they can learn the game before they start racing.

4. Boom Blox and Boom Blox Bash Party

Boom Blox and Boom Blox Bash Party are  creations of the legendary Steven Spielberg in collaboration with Electronic Arts.  It’s a puzzle game where players use their Wii remote to throw object at a 20-block structure to bring it down.  Whoever thought that it could be so enjoyable?  It’s not as easy as you think.  Parents get all sentimental about Tetris when they see this.

5. Active Life Outdoor Challenge

Active Life Outdoor Challenge comes with an eight-pad Active Life mat for single or multi-player events.  If you can’t take the kids on vacation, you might as well take them through 12 fast-paced games like river-rafting, mine-carting, and log jumping.  The measure of your body fitness changes with how your body movements go, and its challenges inspire a lot of teamwork in the family.

6. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga fascinates kids of this age with a universe of Star Wars characters who possess higher powers and whose features can be customized.  Parents who are die-hard Star Wars fans are simply going to love it, and the simple game play and challenging light-saber battles will keep the tykes wide-eyed for quite some time.  May the force be with you as you play this adventure game!

7. Lego Batman

Lego Batman features other superheroes to boot like the duo Batman and Robin, and this time they’re equipped with meaner power suits and weapons.  You also get to build Lego vehicles like Batmobiles, Batwings, and Batboats.  The Dark Knight’s darker theme is toned down for the sake of kids, such that the only violence you see are Lego blocks being flung everywhere.  Parents would also go for their own adventure of Lego Indiana Jones.

8. Wii Sports Resort

Wii Sports Resort is a lot of fun to watch and play.  Multi-player capability means that family members can compete in games like fencing, disc dog, power cruising or water skiing on a tropical island setting.  This is a great innovation to the original Wii Sports which features five sports events namely baseball, tennis, bowling, boxing, and golf where playing improves your skills level.

9. Wii Music

Wii Music makes it possible for musically-inclined boys and girls to play around 60 musical instruments from all around the world through a Nunchuk controller.  They can even record their own music and play it just for fun, which definitely makes this game an ideal one for children aged five to eight.

10. Cooking Mama World Kitchen

Cooking Mama World Kitchen adds some spice to everyday cooking through games parents and younger kids can play together.  How you strike out when you flip burgers teaches children not only to be handy in the kitchen but to also laugh at their mistakes and try again until they do it right.
