Video game lovers refer to getting exercise through playing video games as gamersizing, and EA Sports Active strives to challenge gamers to take their fitness goals to the next level.
When you being playing EA Sports Active you’ll find yourself participating in a wide variety of physical exercises and challenges that you can complete while relaxing in your living room instead of in a crowded, smelly gym. While the games and exercises contained within the Wii Fit were catered towards beginners and advanced fitness levels you will find that the games within the EA Sports Active package are a bit more strenuous. You shouldn’t jump right into this game if you aren’t already in moderate shape.
The folks who created EA Sports active are calling it a “gym in a box” and for good reason. You may not have a bunch of weights and pieces of gym equipment in your living room but this spectacular Wii fitness game will do a lot to help you get in shape.
EA Sports Active was developed by the fabulous Peter Moore. He claims he wanted to focus on creating a game that would stress the importance of cardio fitness while embracing the Western philosophy as it pertains to active exercise. The eastern method of exercise, on the other hand, focuses a lot more on low impact activities like those included in the Wii Fit.
EA sports Active Accessories
The EA Sports Active game for Wii comes with a number of useful accessories. The first is a band that wraps around your thigh and holds your Wii nunchuck. The band and nunchuck combined will help to track your pace as you run and participate in other exercises.
The game also comes with a large exercise band you can use as resistance when you participate in other exercises, like lunges. These accessories don’t sound like much but you’ll be surprised at their versatility as you begin to play and use them.
A large majority of the EA Sports Active exercises make use of the Wii nunchuck accessory. The only drawback is that the cord connecting the Wii remote and nunchuck to the console isn’t always long enough to accommodate movements, such as those made when doing a bicep curl.
The Wii Balance Board is not included within the EA Sports Active package but can definitely be used to enhance gameplay.
EA Sports Active Gameplay
The games and exercises within the EA Sports Active game are broken into four categories. Each covers a different aspect of physical fitness, including upper body, lower body, cardiovascular health, and sports fitness.
EA Sports Active includes a total of 25 exercises. Twenty five may not sound like a lot but it’s enough to provide a wide variety of workout sequences and you never know what activity will come up next. One moment you’ll be running, the next dancing, and the next rowing.
If you get tired of one type of exercise you can easily switch to a new one. While most of the activities focus on aerobic activity to strengthen the heart, there are several strength training activities as well. Those who have used the EA Sports Active game regularly claim it makes great improvements in a person’s overall weight loss and fitness levels.

With an EA Sports Active on-screen instructor by your side, you’ll watch your personal avatar workout on screen as he mimics your physical actions. The workout leaders are great at picking up some of your most intricate movements so your avatar will give you a pretty good depiction of what you actually look like as you move.
The rest of the graphics within EA Sports Active aren’t spectacular. Some have claimed them to even be a bit boring. The audio tracks are pretty standard as well, with typical workout movement and encouraging remarks from the instructor.
Your level of fitness will determine what difficulty level you choose within the game and you can slowly increase your difficulty level as your body begins to adjust to your new workout routine. Every workout lasts for a mere 20 minutes but if you aren’t in great shape, even 20 minutes on the “Easy” mode can be a challenge. EA Sports Active has been rated better than Wii Fit by many simply because of its intensity.
Don’t worry about getting stuck in a rut as far as a routine is concerned, either. You can customize a workout based on your favorite activities and exercises. Simply pick up the Wii remote and choose which 9 exercises you’d like to incorporate as well as how long you’d like each one to last.
EA Sports Active has a number of challenging options. If you choose to participate in the 30 day program you’ll choose to monitor either the number of sessions you participate in during that time or the number of calories you’ve burnt. You can create a 30 day program on any difficulty level.
